I’m feeling the change in seasons in a huge way right now. In New York anyway it went from 80 degrees to 50 in a matter of days. My skin completely freaked out and started to peel… not my favorite look. I got the hint and swapped my skincare to new and all-time fall favorites, and it all happens to be oils.
Oil as skincare can be a little scary for some people—I get it; you’ve probably heard your whole skincare-conscious life that oil will break you out. However, I promise that once you find the right type for you, your skin will feel and be clearer, more cared for, and better nourished than ever before. Find some of my favorites oils below.

Cleanse
Taïla Muhka Botanical Cleanser
Taïla Muhka Botanical Cleanser is my favorite cleansing oil of all time. It removes every stitch of even waterproof makeup and leaves skin purified, exfoliated (it has AHA and glycolic acid from papaya plus anti-inflammatory turmeric), and never moisture stripped. I’m currently on my second bottle… I panic bought a second one when the first ran out so that I wouldn’t have to go a single day without it. Additionally, I love that it’s made in New York by totally vertical means, utilizing whole plant extraction techniques for completely uncompromising purity. Get 15% off with jessibutterfield15
Exfoliate
French Farmacie Elixir Exfoliant
This super gentle exfoliating oil is a must have. Get your softest skin, no scrubbing necessary. It’s so pure and safe you can use it even on your lips! I love to use this oil when I’m multitasking at night… you know, laundry, dishes, meditating, whatever. To use, apply a dropper full to clean, dry skin and carry on with your business for 10-30 minutes before removing with the included muslin for brighter, more even skin. Use 1-3 times a week.
Tone
Payot Refreshing Radiance Mist
Ok, this regimen is mostly oil, but I had to add a toner. Post cleanse/pre moisturizing oil, add a spritz of your toner of choice. Have fun selecting one! As I’m currently mourning the end of summer, I’ve been using the Payot Refreshing Radiance Mist . It’s a super fine mist that smells like the most luxurious Mediterranean vacation, and therefore warmer times. I love to add lots and lots before applying my finishing oil so all that moisture is sealed in!
Moisturize
One if my all time favorite lines just came out with a facial oil and it’s as great as I hoped it would be. The Retrouvé Balancing Facial Oil is supremely light yet luscious with a perfect, velvety dry down that’s exactly what you want under makeup. I love it for day and night to feel like my brightest, most balanced self. I use one pump, but feel free to be an overachiever.
Don’t forget the body
Love a body oil always (I use one year round). For fall and winter in particular I use one filled with AHA to gently smooth skin while sunburn is less of a concern. Try the Byroe Purple Tea Body Oil. It’s a great non-greasy, fast-absorbing weight (perfect for under clothing) and has a lovely, delicate fresh floral scent.
Lips
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Lip Oil Crystal Elixir
Cool girls use lip oil over gloss. I love when skincare can double as a cosmetic, and lip oil is just the thing. The Charlotte Tilbury Magic Lip Oil Crystal Elixir is super easy to use with its rollerball applicator for that girl-on-the-go mega hydration and shine.

The products and trends worth knowing about now
Orlane B21 Extraordinaire Dark Spot Radiance Sérum
Yes, you can combine serums with oil! Orlane B21 Extraordinaire Dark Spot Radiance Sérum is what I’m into right now. It combines powerful brightening ingredients with the tried and true anti-aging benefits of 21 amino acids from the Pale Iris. Basically, it’s a two for one! Add this or any serum to the regimen after toner, right before oil for extra credit.
I am so thrilled about this newness. I’ve been using the Lilfox Essential Oil as perfume for a long time, and now they make a real, clean beauty fragrance. It’s smoky and sexy and perfect for fall. Think: sandalwood, Sicilian bergamot peel, vanilla, tobacco, and cedar. Basically, I’ll be bathing in it for the foreseeable future.
